Dear Rock Valley Community, It has been over a week since volunteers first arrived at our school to assist in the recovery process. Volunteers from near and far came to organize the materials that were salvageable and remove everything damaged by the floodwaters. We managed to remove all impact flooring, from carpet squares and tiles to the wood gym floors. Sheetrock was cut out and cabinets and doors were removed. Firefighters from surrounding towns helped us push 65,000 ga...llons of cleansing water through our facilities. Volunteers even took care of feeding other volunteers! We have made significant progress—more than we could have imagined. For that, we are incredibly thankful. Yet, there is much work to be done. Our current building has been deemed structurally sound, and we have hired Hoogendoorn Construction as the contractor and project manager for our recovery and rebuilding efforts. I also want to note that, over the past days, we have faced numerous changes to our plans. To that end, we regret to share that our new building project has been put on hold until we can re-evaluate it later this year. We are continuously making plans for the upcoming school year, including all the extra- and co-curricular activities our students expect and deserve. “Kids First” remains our motto during these tough times. We do not yet know what this upcoming school year will look like, but we are still Rocket and Nighthawk Proud—and we will work diligently to provide an excellent educational experience to our students. For our students that have been displaced, please plan to register at RVCSD for the upcoming year regardless of where you are living. We will be arranging transportation and special accommodations however possible. Please continue to check our Facebook page and the City of Rock Valley website for ways you can help our town.
