Students Launch Model Rockets

Bar

Each fourth, fifth and sixth grade student in the "Wings" program had the chance to construct a model rocket this spring.  In addition to learning about rocket construction, the students also studied the history of rocketry and Newton's Laws of Motion as they applied to rocketry.   For a final event, the students invited their classmates to watch as they launched their rockets.  A few rockets didn't survive the morning, but the majority of the launches were successful.  The students were impressed with the speed and the height of the launched rockets and were eager to try launching rockets again.  After launching all the model rockets, each student was able to launch a stomp rocket by jumping on the launching pad.  This forced air into the rocket and sent it flying through the air.
