Reading Roundup Is an Overnight Success!

Armed with sleeping bags,
pillows, stuffed animals, cowboy hats and books, 80 second and third grade students
returned to school at 5:15 P.M. on Friday, March 27 to attend an "Overnight Reading
Round-Up." The slumber party was designed to celebrate the love of reading.
The event was kicked off with an opening western show of line dancing and country
singing. Celebrity readers for the evening included Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, Slue
Foot Sue, and Annie Oakley. Throughout the evening children, parents and teachers
participated in a country picnic, campfire stories, as well as hayloft and mess hall
activities. The evening closed with the students reading with flashlights in their
sleeping bags back at the bunkhouses. Before heading home on Saturday morning, 60
volunteers and 80 students were presented with certificates. For Starkweather
Elementary students, the sleepover was a good example of the rootin' tootin' fun that
children can have reading.
