Sixth Grade Teams Compete in Quiz Bowl

The sixth grade students were
divided into four teams for the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl which took place on November 5,
1998. The teams gathered around classroom computers to test their knowledge on a
variety of subjects. Team members worked together to pool their knowledge and come
up with the best answer for each of 100 questions. The contest took nearly an hour
to complete. Correct answers were awarded 10 points with additional points being
given for speed in entering answers. A second chance was given for incorrect
answers, but only five points were possible on a second attempt. Students learned
that it was important to take enough time to get it right the first time. That fact
held true when the contest was over. Mrs. Crane's team, which took the longest to do
the contest, scored the highest. The second slowest team came in second, on down to
the speediest team which came in last. The winning team's score will be submitted to
Thinking Cap Headquarters where it will be compared to other scores from around the state.
Coaches for the teams were Mrs. Crane, Miss Schwien, Mr. Ortman and Mrs. Johnson.
Students and coaches alike felt the contest and two practice sessions were an
interesting and educational way to practice teamwork.
Members of the winning team were: Whitney
Claussen, Aric Den Boer, Kelly Keizer, Tari Landegent, Kevin McGill, Kyle Munneke, Allison
Plueger, Val Rau, Mickey Richard, Bethany Te Slaa and Jesse Van Waardhuizen.
