Kid Kindness
Campaign

Our theme for the 1998-1999 school year was STARKWEATHER ELEMENTARY - HOME OF THE KID
KINDNESS CAMPAIGN. The mascots for the campaign were two stuffed kangaroos, Kirby
and Katy, the kindness kangaroos. Katy and Kirby met students during the first week
of school and then were sent off to share our message of kindness. Katy visited
Oprah Winfrey and Kirby was sent to Iowa's new governor, Tom Vilsack. We even
received letters back from Oprah Winfrey, Christie Vilsack and
others. We hope those who come in contact with the two kangaroos will reply to
Starkweather Elementary and share how they are spreading acts of kindness. We hope
you will do the same thing. We would love to hear about your community and an act
of kindness you did or received. Please
write us!
Four cousins of Katy and Kirby are traveling
around the community of Rock Valley, sharing acts of kindness from one Starkweather
Elementary family to another. We hope that everyone in Rock Valley catches the Kid
Kindness spirit.
The students at Starkweather Elementary did a
great job of sharing the spirit of Kid Kindness. During the month of February they
were given the opportunity to express their ideas by writing a story or drawing a picture
of Kid Kindness. On March 1, 1999 the winners were announced. Be sure to check out the names of the winners and their prize-winning work by

Here is a growing list of some of the acts of
kindness and service our students have performed this school year. Click to read
