Captain Smith and the Flight Simulator Visit Rock Valley Elementary

During the week of October 21,
1996, fifth and sixth graders at Rock Valley Elementary were privileged to have Captain
Smith of the Iowa National Guard speak to them. He talked to the classes each day
about the basics of aeronautics and flight. He shared with the students how his
dream of becoming a pilot became a reality. He challenged students to set goals and
work hard to make them become a reality.
Students Waiting to "Fly" the Simulator
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Patterson
brought the flight simulator "Fly Iowa" to Rock Valley Elementary. Each
student in fifth and sixth grade was given the opportunity to control the movements of the
simulator and experience the feeling of flying.
