Elementary Students Compete in Local Geography Bee

Crayons

On Tuesday, January 6, 1998, Starkweather Elementary held its annual Geography Bee.  Twelve students from grades four through six competed in the event.   Finalists were selected by scores on a written test administered to all fourth, fifth and sixth graders.  Mr. Ortman acted as moderator in the after-school event.   After many difficult questions Travis Van Ginkel was declared the winner and Chris Bouwman was declared the runner-up.  In addition to these two sixth graders, the finalists were fourth grader Nick Slobe, and sixth graders Ben De Ruyter, Amber De Weerd, T.J. Helmus, Brant Jacobs, Kimberly Johnson, Greg Rardin, David Vonk, Kayla Van Maanen and Mandy Wallenburg.
