My name is Mr. Ortman, and I am the elementary principal of the world's finest
staff, students, and families. I love my job as principal. Starkweather
Elementary has approximately 330 super students. Our classes are in two or three
sections with a small average class size. All students work in our 27-station
compter lab, have physical education, music, library, art, and Spanish each week. During the year we do many fun and educational activities. Our students go on many trips to plays, zoos, parks, and symphonies, to name just a few. As a school we promote family literacy and life-long reading habits. We do lots of fun reading projects during the year. Through our Accelerated Reader program, classes earn ice cream parties, go swimming and bowling, and points to buy prizes in our Accelerated Reader Store. The mission of the Rock Valley Community School district is to provide all students with educational opportunities to achieve their optimum potential as citizens of a global society. This mission statement reaffirms our commitment to character education and to educating today's student for tomorrow. Our theme for the 2001-2002 school year is FROM THE INSIDE OUT MY CHARACTER COUNTS! From The Inside Out the students and staff will serve as their own architect building their own character. Activities during the year will enhance and reinforce our work with the six pillars of Character Counts: Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Fairness and Citizenship. I hope all of you will join us in our efforts to fulfill the mission of the district in showing our students FROM THE INSIDE OUT THEIR CHARACTER DOES COUNT! On behalf of Starkweather Elementary, thank you for visiting our web site. I am very proud of our school; the programs we offer, and hope you will visit our school and web site again! |
